what have YOU been up to?

Oh why hello my dear friends!  Can i still call you my friends?  I am sorry i have been MIA, not responding to texts, emails, and FB messages....but man oh man, life has been busy.

Today is day #10 of me being an attending.  A real live doctor in charge of her own patients (think McDreamy without the brain surgery....and the boy parts...and obviously not hooking up with interns bc there aren't any here!)  It is a whole new ballgame folks- i round on patients on the medicine floor and in the ICU, discharge them, admit more of them, and then do procedures (a few).  Then dictate notes, discharge summaries, admission summaries, and THEN bill for everything.  Ummmm....where are my med students and residents to help????  Sometimes i wish i was back at MUSC because you can delegate and divide and conquer.  But not here.  It is little old me, all by myself.  But i am learning.....slowly....and liking it so far.  Maybe just not the drive.

Ok, let's move on to other random things

1) Miley Cyrus
Miley-Cyrus
You know it wouldn't be like me to not talk about her antics at the VMAs.  I was casually watching the show and then Miley in her skimpy outfit and hair horns showed up.  And i yelled at Taylor to come watch the disaster that was unfolding.  She was dancing provocatively with teddy bears and removed more clothes and then grinded on Robin Thicke (*sigh*).  Was this leud act inappropriate? Was this a "desperate stab at adulthood?"
While i am not a big fan of what she did and find her body very similar to a raw pale chicken, Miley is really just upholding a 30 year VMA tradition.  Shock and awe.  Madonna rolled around the stage and grinded on herself in 1984.  Howard Stern was "fartman" in 1992, with a costume including 2 very large hairy balls.   In 1999 Lil Kim had her breast fondled by Diana Ross.  Who can forget the 2003 kiss(es) between Britney Spears, Christina Agulera and Madonna.  Kayne interrupting T Swizzle in 2009 when she won best female video.  And Gaga- in 2010 wore a MEAT dress and in 2011 dressed in drag.
Let's face it.  Miley isn't "Hannah Montana" anymore.  She is growing up.  And while critics and twitter fans alike are uncomfortable with her behavior, Miley is telling us that she is simply being herself.  And while being herself might offend people, she is going to laugh all the way to the bank.  Did you know that her twerk-alishous performance on Sunday night had more tweets per minute than the Super Bowl Blackout???  I was one of the ones tweeting.
But hey America- get over it.  Time to move on to other national/international issues.  Like the 50th anniversary of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech.  Or Syria.  Or the break up of Catherine Zeda Jones and Michael Douglas.

2)  I WANT to cut my hair like THIS.

Thoughts?

3)  32 extremely upsetting things about the class of 2017

Did you know that the kids starting 9th grade are exactly as old as these movies??? (age:15)
They are the same age as all these movies:

Come on!  I love love love Cruel Intentions, 10 things I hate about you and Varsity Blues.  They all bring back wonderful Duke memories......the best friends ever, frozen mud slides, Acapella concerts, and just pure fun.  I love Buzzfeed and how old it makes me feel.  " So when I was your age…..."

4) iPhone pictures-
I don't have any good pictures for y'all .  Haven't been cooking, socializing, or even spending time with dogs/family (shocker).  Starting up a job is hard but it is gonna get better.  Work one week.  Off one week.  I'm just waiting for that week off!!!

5) Happy Birthday (tomorrow, August 29th) to my father!!!

Well, that is it for me tonight.  Hope everyone is doing well!  xoxo

August August August

Can you believe it is 15 days into August and not one blog?  Ok- well maybe i have been a little busy- moving, testing, studying, dealing with ill family members, and getting myself AND Taylor ready for a new school year and a new job.  Whew!  I'm exhausted!

Lots of random things on my mind today- so there might be some random chit chat on this blog today.

So, I don't have any pretty pictures of the house (sorry) but it is really awesome.  Very open- all one floor with the exception of a FROG, which is Taylor's room (aka the teenage retreat).  There are three bedrooms on the 1st floor- one master, and i turned one into a study and one into a guest bedroom.
i did buy a great dog gate off of Etsy to keep the animals at bay.....this is it!  Isn't it cute!!

And yeah, i have been buying the dogs some new beds- they like "sharing" them.  :)

Oh- and yeah, i am OBSESSED with BK Frozen Lemonades.  Lemon and Strawberry.
Perfect for the hot summer days that we have been having.
YUM!!

And by the way, did you know that you can order H&M online now?
I know, i know that there is a H&M on every corner of the major cities, but there are NONE here in Charleston.  So it is just the little things.  Like ordering online.  Gotta love it.

And this recipe.  Smoky Heirloom Tomato and Grilled Peach Pasta Salad with Basil Vinagerette.
YUM-O!  I will be making this immediately.  Well, tonight.  If i can last that long.

I love this blogger- Jessica- from www.howsweeteats.com  She is my hero!!
Although i am not a big fan of icecream and sprinkles like she is-
please give me Sour Patch Kids and sweet tea vodka with lemonade!

And by the way, why is it that my last week of freedom is plagued by rain, rain and more rain?  Flooding conditions here in Charleston starting yesterday and going until Sunday.
Downtown is practically impassible in some areas.

Homelessness x 1+ week

Good rainy thursday afternoon- today marks 9 days of homelessness.
My friend Erin has so very kindly taken us in and has fondly nicknamed my dogs "the three ringed circus."
Here they are- as you can see, they have made themselves at home.

And poor Erin has lost a dogbed-  thank goodness that is the only thing.
We all know how Leia likes to eat things!
But look!  It looks like it snowed!  Lol!

Not much else to report here.  We have a nice routine going at Erin's house-
sleep, eat, study, eat, keep dogs from eating the cats, drink some wine, and repeat.

I am excited that Taylor will be back tomorrow and that i get to see Karen in 2 days!
Yea for mini-road trips!!

Goodbye house

This house officially is NOT MINE!  It is bittersweet- purchased Nov 20, 2008.  Sold July 15, 2013.  Lots of memories made between those dates, a lot good, and a few bad.  But now it is time for someone else to enjoy the house and make their own memories.

Since i am homeless until August 1st (again, thank you Erin for allowing us to stay with you over the next 15 days starting tomorrow......don't say i didn't warn you!!!), i resided at my parent's home over the weekend without the puppies.  They are at summer camp (aka the kennel).  But being at my parent's house means i get to FINALLY download the pictures my dad took from graduation- 1 month ago!
The 5 fellows- Rahul, Clay, me, Travis, and Matt

 Most of the fellows......(missing 4)

Graduating fellows and the attendings who molded and shaped us.  haha.

 Me and Tay

 Me and Brett

 Me and my dad

Me and Dr Silvestri

Can't believe it took 1 month to finally upload them!!

In other news, i am dying to cook- i miss my kitchen!!
I want to make:
These oyster sliders
This sesame ginger salmon
This lobster grilled cheese

YUMMMMMM!

Ok, i have now spent 7 hours watching NCIS.  LOL.  Love this RELAXING day!!  Back to the grind tomorrow!!

Chain of Fools

Chain of Fools is a song sang by Aretha Franklin, recorded in 1967.  My Calculus tutor in high school, Josie Sheatsley use to sing it to me when i was doing the chain rule for AP Calculus (she was home schooling me because, well, i was pregnant my senior year of high school....lol).
For those of you who don't remember, the chain rule is a formula for computing the derivative of the composition of two or more functions. That is, if f is a function and g is a function, then the chain rule expresses the derivative of the composite function fg in terms of the derivatives of f and g.
For example, the chain rule for (fg)(x) is

\frac {df}{dx} = \frac {df}{dg} \cdot \frac {dg}{dx}.

Yep, i am a total nerd.

But for about 10 years, i always thought she was singing "Change, Change, Change" (like change your answer because you are wrong) and it wasn't until i was in Residency when an attending and i had a discussion about that song and i realized i had the lyrics wrong, and i figured out it was "Chain of Fools" not "Change of Fools."  So for 10 years, when things were changing around me, i would sing "change, change, change," completely incorrectly but felt it was relevant to my life.

So for today, I am singing the song incorrectly, singing "change change change" as many different things are changing around me in my life.
1st off, the movers are here.  Loading POD #1 (of 2) up with as many boxes, furniture, etc as possible.

We will soon have an empty house that has been inspected by at least a 1/2 dozen people, cleaned, and ready to have a new owner.  I have bought her a bottle of champagne and toasting glasses to celebrate her 1st house.  So hopefully this happens!
Please say a prayer as closing is on Monday AM and i would LOVE for this to be over and done with!

Oh- and Tiberius HATES packing!!

2nd off, i have a new ride.
Here is my 2013 (but used) Honda CR-V that was officially mine on July 6, 2013.
This little beauty is fuel efficient, safe, and best of all, has air conditioning!  It is the perfect car to take me to and from Colleton Hospital in Walterboro.  The commute will be much better in this ride rather than the '93 Volvo.
:)

I am sure there are more changes that i can describe for you but i need to supervise these moving guys (come on dudes- don't leave the front door open the WHOLE time- you are letting in flies!!!!).
:)

Now everyone sing with me "change change change!"  I am totally embracing it!

I'm just not feeling it today....

....so i thought i would write a blog (since it has been a while) to let the creative juices flow and to just let me blow off some steam.
Why am i not feeling it today?
Well, I don't know if it is the constant rain we have been having in Charleston- i mean, rain, every day....downpours, then sun, then clouds, then downpours, then flooding, then sun, then more downpours.
today is day #2 of a continuous flash flood watch.......

Photo: Well it's flooding!!! emergencies only please

Or the fact that i feel like i am being drowned in a sea of boxes......
Closing day is July 15th.  Move in to our new house August 1st.
Trading this house...........................................................for this one........................

And for those 15 days that we will be homeless, my dear friend Erin has offered us (and the three pups) her home.  Let's see if she lets me call her a friend after we have spent those days with her.  While i know i am completely delightful (hehe), these puppies can be a HANDFUL!  I am sure i will bribe her with lots of wine!
:)

Or the fact that it is already July.  How did this happen?  Where did the past 6 months go?  Oh- and speaking of July, we all know that i love July 4th because that means i get to cook (and even though i will be moonlighting, i will be bringing delicious food for my co-workers)!
But, since i will be working and want to show some patriotism, i also decided to be patriotic with my nails and do this:
Final (1)

Well, i am not even going to show you what it actually looked like when i attempted it.  I might submit a picture to http://www.pinterestfail.com/ (yes, it was really that bad).  Lol.

For now, i am going to stick to what i am good at-cooking cupcakes and then decorating them like an American flag.  Lol.

Well, i might have gotten some inspiration to do some work, read, pack, clean, and all those other things i was dreading.......have a good day y'all!
